Essential Components of a Forklift

A forklift, or vehicle for lifting goods, is a vehicle designed for lifting goods up and down, as well as for transporting goods. Although it is a vehicle, it has been modified to suit its use, and it contains various important components for its operation, as follows:

1. Forklift Mast

The forklift mast is the most important component of the vehicle. The mast is a sliding rail mechanism for raising and lowering the forks. Typically, a forklift mast consists of 2 sections that can raise approximately 3 meters, but sometimes, when more height is needed, it can be extended to 5-6 meters by changing to a 3-section mast.

2. Forks

Equally important as the mast is the forks, which are tools that work in conjunction with the mast to lift various loads. The forks themselves are dangerous equipment and must be handled carefully during use and operation. There are various types of forks depending on the load type and the chosen forks should be suitable for the specific load.

3. Hydraulic Cylinders

A standard forklift has 3 sets of hydraulic cylinders: lifting cylinders to raise and lower the forks, 2 tilt cylinders to tilt the mast forward and backward, and 1 steering cylinder to control the steering of the forklift.

4. Front Wheels

The front wheels consist of 3 types: load wheels, drive wheels, and outrigger wheels. They serve three functions: bearing the load (load wheels), driving the forklift, and braking for electric stand-up forklifts.

5. Rear Wheels

The final important component of a forklift is the rear wheels, which are solely responsible for steering but are crucial for operational efficiency.

The crucial components of a forklift have different functions, but no matter their roles, they are vital to their respective functions and contribute to the forklift's efficiency in operation.
