If you are a foreigner in Thailand looking to start your own business or advance your professional career with a local Thai company, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the necessary procedures and documents required to obtain a visa that will allow you to stay for the needed duration.
To work or conduct business in Thailand, you must secure a Thai business visa or a Thai work visa, categorized as a Non-Immigrant B (business) visa. In some cases, if a foreign employee is hired by a Thai company, the company may assist in organizing and providing the necessary documents for the visa application.
Any foreigner legally married to a Thai citizen is eligible for a long-term visa to stay in Thailand, which can be renewed annually. This visa falls under the Non-Immigrant O (Other) category, commonly known as the 'Thai Marriage Visa.' To obtain this visa, the applicant must submit the application along with all necessary documents at a Thai Embassy. The processing time typically ranges from 2 to 5 working days, depending on the consul office handling the application.
Are you a business professional or service member who has spent significant time in your home country and is now considering retiring in a tropical paradise with a rich culture and hospitable people?
Thailand consistently ranks among the top Asian countries where foreigners prefer to retire. It offers a perfect “Retirement Paradise” with its undeniable low cost of living, allowing retirees to enjoy their pensions, and world-class healthcare services they can rely on during their retirement. Whether you prefer the cooler weather in the mountains of Chiang Mai (northern part), the year-round seaside breeze in Phuket (southern part), or the bustling scenery of a metropolitan area, Thailand has something for everyone.
To make your retirement dreams a reality in the "Land of Smiles," it's essential to familiarize yourself with the factors to consider for your “Retirement Visa.” Schedule an appointment with our legal experts at JT Legal Consult to guide you through the process.
It's important to note that the Retirement Visa, also known as a Non-Immigrant O-A Visa, allows holders to stay in Thailand long-term.
Any foreigner wishing to work or do business in Thailand must apply for a work permit as soon as they engage in any work or operate a business, whether as a skilled professional or an employer. A work permit is necessary to work legally in the Kingdom of Thailand.
If a foreigner is arrested for working without a valid work permit, they may face severe consequences, including fines and imprisonment.
Before applying for a work permit, a foreigner must first obtain a Non-Immigrant Business visa, which can be acquired in their country of residence or at a Thai Embassy.
The work permit will need to be renewed in accordance with the renewed or extended visa.
There are various ways to obtain a work permit in Thailand, and the complexity of the process, along with the required documentation, can cause delays. Therefore, the assistance of an experienced firm is highly recommended to expedite the process of obtaining a work permit.
JT Legal Consult can help you gather all the necessary documents and handle the filing, as we have the expertise in this field to facilitate a smooth work permit application process.
Please note that once you are granted a 1-year visa, you, along with all holders of long-term visas in the kingdom, are required to report to the immigration office every 90 days. This process is not difficult and is free of charge; however, failure to comply can result in fines ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 baht.
The 90-Day Report is a bureaucratic procedure primarily aimed at periodically checking the whereabouts of foreigners residing in Thailand, as well as updating immigration records to confirm that you are still alive and well.
To fulfill this requirement, which is solely to notify the immigration office of your current address, you will need the following documents:
Keep in mind that once you receive a 1-year visa stamp in your passport and plan to travel out of Thailand during your visa's validity, you will need to obtain a re-entry permit to prevent your visa from being canceled upon your return.
A Single Re-Entry Permit, as the name suggests, is valid for a single use, while a Multiple Re-Entry Permit allows for multiple entries and exits from Thailand without affecting the validity of your visa.
You can apply for a re-entry permit at any immigration office or at the international airport before departing from Thailand.
